Biodegradable Products – A Great Step in Making the Earth Safer, free of plastic products and elimination negative effects of fossil fuels
The advent of sophisticated technology brought different innovations and inventions over the past 100 years. These inventions may not be entirely harmless to humans and the environment we live in. Some of these innovations have posted a great threat to life on Earth.
Use of fossil fuels in devolving plastic products is the cause of many environmental threats we encounter daily. The over use of plastics in toys designs have exposed the children to this harmful product. Plastic water bottles has been affecting the fertility of men and women. Cancer-causing mutated cells are linked to many health issues. However the future is not bleak. Biodegradable products that are Earth grown and nature made, offer better alternatives.
For a long time now, nature groups have been trying, to warn and to make people understand how our lifestyle is affecting the planet we live in. The eco-friendly products that are manufactured from nature grown materials are recommended to help eliminate the myriad evils from our daily life. By implementing small alternative products the quality of our environment could be restored. Measure such as using biodegradable products and producing and using renewable energy are among many recent innovations. But first, let me clarify and define what biodegradable products are?
Definition of Biodegradable products
Biodegradable products by definition are any products that can break down into smaller components in the environment without emitting any toxic gas or leave behind toxic residue. They are also any products that are made from naturally processed ingredient devoid of any synthetic components. The product from such a process can be acted upon by microorganisms to break them down into harmless eco-friendly substances.
Compostable, on the other hand, is used to describe the process by which microorganism breakdown organic waste to produce compost. The two terms are usually used to define products that are environmentally friendly or the breaking down of organic material under specific conditions. While composting is defined as a mixture of decaying organic substances, like leaves from trees and others.
Biodegradable products are well-known for their ability to decompose into natural substances that can blend with the soil. Also, they can be recycled and reverted back to their original form for further use. A typical example is a paper which is a biodegradable product made from wood pulp that can also be recycled for use after it has been discarded. It can be recycled and turned into cups, bags, books, cards and many other useful things.
However plastics which are made from synthetic chemicals which remain unchanged when discarded in the environment. The microorganism cannot act on them, and they are sometimes harmed and killed by the plastics. Plastic bottles contain toxic chemicals that can contaminate the water it is filled with, enter into food and end up causing issues for the environment, plants, humans, and animals. As for the plastic bottle itself, it will remain in the soil forever until destroyed by the industrial process or decomposed by sunlight which is not healthy.
Due to the inability of a non-biodegradable substance to decompose quickly, it is easy for trash to accumulate. Trash accumulation has been identified as the root cause of many health issues and other problems facing the earth environment and other living things. A good example of trash accumulation is the great Pacific garbage patch that is causing several problems to the environment and marine life in general.
